In the autumn of 2002 the Zen-Zang Branch made it possible to go to Nanzenji in Kyoto, Japan. The main Zen-temple in Japan of the Rinzai sect.
Sekko Tanaka invited us to come. So eleven of my students jumped into the deep unknown. For two weeks we were put in Zazen training in one of the temples of Nanzen-ji. This was interrupted by a very pleasant 5-day trip into the northern countryside of Kyoto. It was a trip passing the most wonderful temples, hardly seen by tourists, the beautiful Japanese coastline and wonderful mysterious bays and again driving through dense forests with wild rivers.
In the evening we could soak ourselves in hot spring baths in Japanese style hotels, after which we dressed ourselves in kimono's and ate the delicious foods waiting for us in wonderful arranged rooms were we could make our party even more enjoyable by the never missing Karaoke set.
