What is 'Zen-Zang'?
|
|
Finally a long cherished dream came true; to bring Silence and Sound together.
|
| |
|
In the past there have been separate workshops for men and woman because of practical considerations like voice pitch.
But working together with Sekko Tanaka made it possible to extend the programme.
Now both male and female singers are invited.
That was my second wish.

Since the beginning of my years of study in India, for me the discovery and the development of the voice together with ones musical capabilities, is directly linked to the spiritual process of self realisation.
The voice expresses exactly where we are in our development as human being.
Those of you who have experienced their tone or musicality through my Zen-Zang methods, by means of private- or group lessons, know how tight I put the link between voice, meditation and self realisation.

During the summer of the year 2000 a special person was introduced to me: the Zen-master Sekko Tanaka.
During my stay in Kyoto he invited me for daily meditations. This was a very special opportunity and it became a very special experience.

Because of his endearing and very modest personality it was possible to enter a silence which was absolutely new to me.
Back in Holland I realised, that he had sung in silence. What I do with my voice, he does with silence.
During the daily zen-meditation I was absolutely not aware of his presence. Sometimes I even thought: "What the hell he is actually doing?''.
Later I understood, while staying with some other friends in the south of Japan, how difficult it was to sit on your own. Slowly it became clear to me what a special person he must be.

Back in Holland seeing his picture it became fully clear: a happy, friendly man and a loving and compassionate Zen-master. Automatically a deep desire arose to let all of you meet and experience this wonderful person.
This wish has become reality as well.

Since then we have organised several seminars in order to give more people a chance to meet, and practice with him.
Sekko-San Tanaka now regularly comes to Holland to lead the Zen section of the seminars and has become friends with many people around him.

So, what does a Zen-priest do when he's in Holland?
